About the Instructors:
Matt King has been studying and working in the ceramics field for more than 25 years. Through his time at TAS, he has started implementing more technology such as using the laser cutter and the decal printer in the creation of his ceramic pieces, and bringing it into the instruction of his middle school ceramics classes and clubs.

David Morris is a potter and art educator who is based in Taipei. When he arrived in Taiwan in 2011 he was an avid thrower on the potter's wheel. During his time at TAS he has honed slab-building, coil-building, alternative firing techniques, and clay 3-D printing. His first exposure to 3-D printing in clay was during the 2014 ceramic biennale at the Yingge Ceramics Museum titled Terra Nova. He has slowly integrated 3-D printing into his classroom practice and his own studio practice. He will share his experience with Rhino 3D, Cura, and the 3D potter Bot printer.

About the workshop:

This workshop will talk about different ways in which you can utilize technology in your lesson planning for ceramics classes. We will utilize things like Adobe Illustrator with a laser cutter, 3D design software and the ceramic 3D printer, as well as using digital drawing programs to create unique decal designs with our ceramic decal printer. We will walk through the programs and equipment, provide resources to refer to, as well as show the finals steps in the process in which you can assist in making some pieces. Due to time constraints of the conference and the workshop window of time, there most likely won't be any take home pieces, though we will see if we can fit in the possibility of having you add a decal to a premade mug and get it fired before everyone takes off.
